Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, features 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel complex that highlights numerous conveniences in addition to the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
